about

As the title implies, these are the kind of rustic Shetland tunes I grew up with.
Traditionally played on the bus on the way home from a dance or as people visited each other's homes informally for a tune, they reflect where the players themselves came from, each one named after a croft, a hill, a burn, a voe & the like.
In this case, I learned these sets from this tradition, firstly from my parents, who in turn learned them from & played them with the likes of David Hall & great musicians from Northmavine, Delting & Yell.
Here I’ve fused them with my style of fiddling (which these types of tunes have heavily influenced), accompanied by foot tapping & Guitar, which I think they really lend themselves to.
